At the music store, when you find the cymbals you like, go across the room and listen as someone else hits them. This way you’ll hear them as an audience would be hearing them.

Cymbals loose brightness with age. So when it comes to new cymbals, look on the bright side! It’s better to have a little too much brightness at the outset.

For a short sound you can add a china cymbal to your setup. Place the china where you feel you can reach it easily. Chinas can go high up on a boom stand or in between other cymbals on the set.
